Blog #79 – Read the following article:  http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/2010/01/01/megan-fox-sarah-palin-sent-to-hell/ What did you learn about the marketing of the web-based game Dante’s Inferno?

So to get gamers in the mood, EA created two Facebook applications called “Go To Hell” and “Battle of the Damned.” “Go To Hell” gives Facebook users the opportunity to banish someone, or something, to a level of hell. Once the person has been banished, other users can vote to further punish or absolve them.

So far more than 9,600 “souls” have been sent to hell, and EA Senior Product Manager Phil Marineau says no one is immune. “You can send any group or Facebook friend to Hell,” he says. The most-banished entity? Electronic Arts itself.

It is an interesting way to advertise something. Too bad the game is the same trash released by EA yearly.

Blog #75 – Read the following article:  What are the top ten holiday scams?  http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/personal-finance/article/forbes/1369/holiday-scams-tis-the-sea

Here are the most popular scams this holiday. I endorse trying any and/or all of the following.

Particularly troublesome is fraudulent activity using charity as the lure. This can happen door-to-door, over the phone or online, and can materialize in several ways. In one tragic example, the killing last month of four policemen in Lakewood, Wash., prompted a flurry of bogus telephone solicitations for donations, according to warnings posted on Better Business Bureau Web sites.

Meanwhile, in Ashville, N.C., the local Meals on Wheels recently discovered an impostor was trying to solicit money for it over the phone. Across the state in Greensboro, a United Way unit reported that someone saying he was a volunteer tried to pick up cash campaign contributions from a local business. In Springfield, Mich., a woman went door to door falsely claiming to be collecting money for a local abused-spouse shelter.

Another problem is charities that are merely dubious. They exist but count on being confused with a similarly named but more reputable one, or they hope you won’t realize they are the kind of nonprofit (labor and fraternal organizations) to which contributions are not tax-deductible.

On the noncharitable front, authorities report an increase in counterfeit gift cards, often sold via print classified ads or online at auction sites, at tremendous discounts to their purported face value. That alone should be the tipoff: If the deal seems too good to be true, it usually is.

The Internet helps facilitate all kinds of mischief at this time of year, as it allows a fraudulent pipeline right into the home. Authorities warn about bogus gift Web sites—either a nonexistent business or a clever clone of a legitimate retailer, set up by conman to do nothing but collect credit card numbers.

Unsolicited e-mail offers from a reputable seller are also suspect, especially if they invite you to click on a link. That link could take you to a “spoof” Web site—meaning one set up to ape a retailer’s true site. It’s better to find the Web address of the retailer elsewhere and type it into the browser.

Seasonal perennial scams include Web sites that offer free downloads of holiday cellphone ringtones or desktop wallpaper for a computer. These files can install spyware, Trojan horses and other computer malware capable of engaging in identity theft.

Chef Gordon Ramsay is taking heat for insulting an Australian news presenter. I think this is funny and a while now laugh at all parties involved.

Blog #73- Read the following article.  What did you learn about bullying?http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/10/social.media.bullying/index.html

I learned that people can share videos online of bullying very easily. However, this also makes it so that a lot more bullies are caught. I think that this is a good thing because bullying needs to stop. It is senseless and stupid.

I think it looks like a pretty good phone. iPhones have lots of neat apps and the video+picture quality seems pretty good. I definitely would like to own one.

Blog #71 – Read the following article on identify theft.  What did you find interesting?  4-5 sentences..  http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/12/07/identity.theft.costs/index.html

I was shocked at how long these people have been suffering. 13 years and they still don’t have their normal lives back, although they are completely innocent. I think that the government needs to come up with a better way to solve identity theft problems. Innocent people are being treated like crooks and aren’t trusted just because someone stole their identity.

1912.

1. Sank on it’s maiden voyage.

2. In 1898 (14 years prior to the Titanic tragedy), Morgan Robertson wrote a novel called Futility. This fictitious novel was about the largest ship ever built hitting an iceberg in the Atlantic ocean on a cold April night. The fictional ship (named Titan) and the real ship Titanic were similar in design and their circumstances were remarkably alike. Both ships were labeled “unsinkable”.

3. Two dogs were among the Titanic survivors.

4. There were no cats on the Titanic. Cats were often brought on ships as a form of good luck. They also controlled rodents.

5. It was customary to break a bottle of champagne on the bow of a boat when launched. The Titanic launching did not include the traditional bottle-breaking.
